Peplum tops

Peplum tops are great in that they hide your stomach like empire waists, with the added bonus of highlighting a small waist. I wish I owned more, since I adore tops that make my waist look even smaller. Plus, a ton of them are super cute.

New York, New York

I love New York. Seriously. I just went for two weeks, for an acting for film camp at SOCAPA. Living there, even just for two weeks, is incredible for me. I adore that city. It has this incredible and inspiring light and life to it that I can't resist. The camp was awesome, too. We stayed at a New School dorm and ate at NYU (my dream school) dining halls. During the camp, I took acting classes most days, and three days the acting kids filmed the film student's movies. I loved filming so much. The one full weekend I was there, we went to Central Park and Battery Park. In Central Park we walked around, and it was beautiful and great. At Battery Park, we stumbled upon the filming of Men in Black 3, and saw Will Smith! I also saw Dylan and Cole Sprouse two days in a row. They're so cute, but I didn't get any pictures of them. I didn't want to bother them. Anyway, my trip was amazing. The fourth time I'd been to NYC, but I love it just as much as ever. During the trip, I bought this awesome lipstick, which is the perfect shade of red for my skin tone, and I love the texture, too. I also got black and white striped arm socks and thigh-high socks ($6 each) from Gothic Renaissance, which is on 4th Avenue near 12th Street.

La Strada

La Strada (1954) is an Italian film that has been extremely important and influential in the history of films and film-making. It's very different, and it does not disappoint. However, I would only recommend it if you are a movie-lover. It really is for those who love films, and it is incredibly easy to appreciate.

Beatnik Brights

For this look, pick cool pieces that are 60s-looking and/or arty, in awesomely bright and fun colors. Basically, this style is all about retro, arty fun. I love it. And, guess what, it's perfect for summer.

Day For Night

Day for Night (or La Nuit Américaine in French) is a film made in France in 1973 by François Truffaut. It's a movie about making movies. It's also a relationship drama with subtle humor in it, which I love. I also adore France, and this movie is irresistibly French.

80s Pop

This look is all about what you might see in 80s music videos and pop culture movies. It's all about sleek, bright colors, but don't be surprised if you see some fringy or bohemian shapes, too. This style is so much fun to both look at and wear.

Kick-Ass

Kick-Ass came out around 2010, and it's about a kid that tries to become a superhero like in the comics. It's a really cool film, and I even liked it, as a girl (although, granted, I read Amazing Spider-Man every month). It's just a fun, feel-good film. I do warn you, however, it's pretty violent in some parts.

Black Mascara

So, this might sound a little silly, but I honestly can't stress the importance of black mascara. If I am going anywhere at all, even just to Wal-Mart and back, I wear black mascara. To those of you that don't own or wear mascara, and especially black mascara, let me explain. First of all, mascara. It not only opens your eyes, it makes them way prettier. I recommend getting it with the sort of brush like above, with spaced-out bristles so that it doesn't clump. I personally do not like waterproof, because the non-waterproof you can wipe off in the shower. Second of all, the color black makes it very basic, and very wearable. It looks good on you no matter your skin tone, hair color, or eyelash color. And you can usually find it cheap, and buy it anywhere. Try to replace it every four months or so, since it can go bad. The best fashion tip I can give you to invest in? Wear black mascara. It's worth it.
